Blurt: Drink Your Way to Good Health

It is such a hot and humid summer’s day. As I am exercising on my balcony I begin to think how good it feels to sweat. It is a great to feel all of the benefits from exercising and to let the toxins pour out of my body. I think of how great it is that the Lord has provided me with such a beautiful day to enjoy. I also think about how the invention of air-conditioning has spoiled us. I believe it has contributed to the increase in obesity in our society. I know as I am out in the heat I sometimes will think how nice it will be to go back indoors because the humidity at times is thick and takes my breath away.

I think about those that work in the heat all day. For a long time I worked outdoors and believe it helped keep the weight off of me. By being active and out in the weather I could maintain my weight. I not only worked in the heat but I also enjoyed playing out in the sun. I enjoyed many sports in my youth and know this helped me from gaining weight. It must have because I had terrible eating habits back then. I think air-conditioning has contributed to the alarming rate that our children are becoming obese. I believe that it is important to get out in the weather and sweat.

As we our outside and as we exercise we lose a lot of water from our system. Even if we stay indoors and do little or no exercise it is still important to drink enough fluids. Do you drink enough fluids in your diet? Obviously, water is best to replenish our bodies. If you have trouble drinking water, please read my article entitled, Blurt: Hate Drinking Water?

If weight loss is your goal, drinking fluids becomes even more important. If you become dehydrated it slows your metabolism by three percent which means that in a year you would gain five pounds. Simply by drinking the recommended eight glasses of fluids each day can boost your metabolism and aid in your weight loss efforts.

Many health benefits have been cited by keeping your body well hydrated. It helps your digestive and urinary tract systems function properly. It keeps your skin healthy giving it a more attractive appearance. It helps your muscles work more efficiently. As I mentioned it helps our bodies flush out the toxins in our systems. It helps our brains function properly and wards off headaches, migraines, fatigue and depression. It decreases the risks of heart attacks. It helps regulate our body temperature where we won’t suffer from heat exhaustion while exercising.

Simply by sipping water throughout the day we can easily consume the fluids our bodies need. Starting off the day with cereal and milk, a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee or tea is a good way to begin the day with the right amount of fluids. I like to keep a pitcher of ice water handy to pour glasses to sip off of throughout the day. I find it easier if it is handy because I am more likely to drink it if it is within reach as opposed to having to walk and go get a drink every time I am thirsty. It is good to stay away from sodas for fluids. If you are craving something sweet try drinking flavored water instead. I like to use the sugar-free powdered drink flavors, pink lemonade is my favorite. Another good option you can drink is tea; it offers many health benefits in addition to replenishing our fluids. I have discussed these in my article, Blurt: Tips to a Healthy Lifestyle.

In conclusion, fluids are important to maintain our good health. I hope that some of these suggestions help you in your goals of weight loss and living a happier and healthier lifestyle. Don’t be afraid of getting out in the heat and enjoying the day. It is good for our bodies to sweat a little and start moving. We have been spoiled by our air-conditioned environments and cannot use the heat as an excuse not to exercise. The main thing is to replenish our fluids and drink our way to good health. You can achieve success! God Bless and Take Care.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
